In the blink of an eye....

5 years.  When you are little, 5 years seems like, literally, forever. The time from when I was 11 until I turned 16 seemed like an eternity...but as I got older, time seemed to go by just a little faster each year.  Just like that I was out of high school, and college went by even faster, and now it's been 5 years since we had our first precious, tiny little daughter, Eden Nevaeh, and I honestly don't know where any of that time went...but pass by it did...like a whirlwind, in the blink of an eye.  Now I am a mommy to a creative, imaginative, smart, compassionate, and beautiful  5 year old who every single day makes me more and more proud to call her my daughter.  As fun as it is to see her grow up, I do daily wish that somedays she could just stay this way forever...so innocent and carefree...where her biggest decision to make is what toy to play with next, and her hardest problem to solve is to find a pair of matching shoes.   But alas, I know this is impossible.  So I will embrace the next 5 years to come, and pray that I can remember and savor each and every one of those memories, as I have for the past 5 years.  It is so cliche', but so true, cherish each and every moment with your little ones, embrace even the days when everything seems to be going wrong. Savor each milestone and each stage...they go by entirely too quickly.  Love your kiddos, pray for them, spend time with them, and encourage them.  We may not be able to keep them from growing up, but we can certainly make the most of the time we are given with them.

Here is my all grown up (yet still tiny) Eden Nevaeh =)

In Other News....

Hey! Just wanted to again say THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the fundraiser/contest to raise money for my BFF and her hubbies next adoption! Together we raised just over $2100...I couldn't be more pleased with the way it all worked out!  So Thanks again, it wouldn't have been possible without you! You can check out the winners and more information HERE on Lauren's adoption blog!

You can also view ALL of the contest photos on my shutterfly site...which is HERE .

As for my OTHER NEWS -  I am giving myself a vacation.  After almost 2 years of shooting at least one shoot a month, to now more like 1 or 2 a week, I am taking some time off =)  I want to fully enjoy the holidays with my family and just relax on cold, snowy January days!  So, my "official" vacation will be from Monday DECEMBER 20th through Monday JANUARY 31st...so, you can spread the word if you would like to others that I will be off and not taking any photo shoot requests during that time...UNLESS it is a newborn that comes  and needs done ....that would be the ONLY exception =)

Thanks so much for understanding and for everyone who has allowed me to photograph their amazing families, kiddos, events, etc...

Much love,

Holly

FACEBOOK ALBUM QUICK LINK!!

CLICK HERE FOR THE FACEBOOK ALBUM TO SHARE!!!

It's Contest Time!!! See official rules below =)

After going through over 1300 images from the fundraiser shoots this past weekend, I have been able to narrow it down (with a bit of difficulty) to a "few" of my favorites!!  Here are the official contest rules...if you want to know WHY I am holding this contest, please see THIS POST to get an explanation behind the contest.  You can also always head over to the Uhrich's blog, KNOWING NORRAH and click on the LU ADOPTS button to read more about their adoption process!!!

RULES

1.  Anyone and Everyone is encouraged to vote!  So spread the word!!  VOTING is from today (11/1) thru Friday (11/5) at midnight.  Plenty of time to spread the word to everyone you know!

2.  You may vote as many times as you would like for as many different pictures/persons as you would like...each vote costs just $1.00.  Let me explain this a bit.  Let's say you have 2 grandchildren and would like to place 10 votes to each of them.  You would donate $20 and then specify that you would like 10 votes to go to grandchild A and 10 to go to grandchild b.  I hope that makes a little bit more sense!

3.  Here is how to actually "cast your vote"...

I am going to be posting a PUBLIC facebook album...under each photograph there will be a "picture title" as well as a link that will take you directly to Lauren and Ken's adoption paypal account ****YOU DO NOT NEED A PAYPAL ACCOUNT TO DONATE...A CREDIT CARD IS FINE!***

*******IMPORTANT - before completing the transaction be sure to write your vote in the "special instructions to the seller." The "special instructions to the seller" will appear in your donation review page as a blue hyperlink on the lefthand side. Simply click and type us your votes in the space provided. We will not know who you voted for unless you write a message in the "instructions to seller" area. And be sure to use the EXACT photo name as referenced under the photograph from the facebook album. Again, you are welcome to vote for more than one photo so if you give 10 dollars and want to split your 10 votes between two cute costumed kiddos that is PERFECTLY FINE. Just specify your votes in the "instructions to seller" of the paypal transaction so that we can keep accurate voting records.

As for voting, you simply vote for whoever, or whichever picture you like the most!!! There is absolutly NO criteria for determining what to vote for!!  Tell your cousins, aunts, grandparents, and co-workers to vote for your adorable little ones!!  In other words....SPREAD THE WORD FOLKS!!!  All you will have to do it post/share the facebook album link to your facebook, or to your blog, or email out it to others!!  Pretty simple way to get the word out!!!

Also important to keep in mind is that for every dollar you donate, you will be entered that amount of times into the contest to win some pretty cool prizes.  So what I am saying is that if you are really amazing and donate $55 towards a specific photograph/child...then you have been entered 55 times into the contest to win a prize!!!  Of course, we are happy with $1.00 donation amounts as well, but if you want to up your chances, then up your donation =)

Even though this is really all about donating to the Uhrich's...there are some additional incentives for anyone who votes!! See the prize section below!

PRIZES

We will be handing out several prizes at the end of the contest voting period.  The first prize will go to the child/family who received the MOST votes based on their photo.  This prize will be a gift certificate to a super awesome store and some goodies for the child/children pictured in the photograph.

Additionally there will also be TWO votes chosen at random to also receive a gift card to a really awesome store...which is just great considering the holidays are right around the corner!!!

Really...everyone wins in my opinion!

THANKS!!!

I would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who brought out their adorable little kiddos over the weekend and allowed me the privilege of photographing them for this special fundraiser!  You all were so generous and I was so blessed by what each of you did for Ken & Lauren!!  I am hoping to have ALL of the edited pictures up on my shutterfly site by the weekend....these are NOT the only pictures you will be receiving...please keep that in mind!!! Thanks again!

Fall Fun Photo Shoot FUNdraiser & Contest!!!!!

One of my very best friends, who is basically all but superwoman in my eyes, is going to be adopting another little one!  Yes, you heard me right, ANOTHER child.  Lauren and Ken have one adopted daughter, and one birth daughter, who also happens to have special needs due to a rare chromosomal disorder, Wolfe -Hirschorn Syndrome.  In spite of all of this, they are faithfully answering their call to adopt again!  You can read all about this HERE on Lauren’s very own blog, Knowing Norrah.
So, because I love Lauren and her beautiful family with all of my heart, and because I also believe in using gifts and talents to bless others to the best of our ability, I am going to do just that...with a little help (hopefully!) from all of you!!

Here is how the “fun fundraiser photo shoot /costume contest” is going to work...
You find fun costumes/dress up clothes for your kiddos (newborn up until kindergarten age) and then you dress them up, and bring them to my “makeshift studio” (aka my house) to get their pictures taken!!  Whether you believe in, or celebrate Halloween is irrelevant for this fundraiser, because really, what child doesn’t love to dress up and have fun??  Then, I take a few photos of your adorable little munchkins, edit them and post them on a shutterfly site that you can buy them or do whatever you want with them, as well as facebook, so that everyone else can see your cute little ones (if you want, that is!)  All you have to do is make a donation towards Lauren & Ken’s adoption fund!  That’s right, no sitting fees, no purchase fees, nothing like that.  You give what you can, or feel like you should,  and ALL proceeds will go towards supporting another beautiful adoption experience!!
I only have a FEW “rules” if you will...
I will NOT under any circumstance, photograph any scary, ghouly, grim, bloody or demonic looking costume...sorry....those are just NOT cute, and this is all about being cute and having fun!   So, if you were planning on dressing up your 2 year old as a bleeding devil...then you will need to get them photographed elsewhere =)
And second - you will need to sign up for a time slot and be responsible to stick to that time, as it could get pretty hectic around my house with tons of little ones and costumes and small spaces....well not it could...it WOULD! So if you sign up for a time slot, then please be on time and ready to have your kiddos say cheese =)
Lastly - due to restricted space in my “studio” I can only do up to 3 small children in the same photo, and that is pushing it.  1 or 2 is ideal!!!
The DATES and TIMES for this fundraiser will be Friday OCT 29th from 9:30 -11:00 and SATURDAY OCT 30th from 9:30 - 12:00.  I am thinking it will be 15 minute time slots.  That means, if you do the math, that I can accommodate 16 different appointments...so it is first come, first serve!
To “reserve” your time slot please leave a comment here, or on my facebook link, or send me a facebook message with the date and  3 time slots you prefer and then I will create a schedule and post it and send it out!
AS FOR THE CONTEST PART - That will come AFTER the edited pictures are posted, probably sometime the following week.   Basically, everyone who donates at least $1 will be allowed to vote for their favorite photo - you can vote based on costume, photo, kiddos, whatever.  For taking the time to vote and for donating to a very super awesome cause, you will then be entered into a “contest” to win a $25 gift certificate to a really great store =)  AND - the person/family who receives the most “votes” for their costume photo will also receive a $25 gift certificate to a really great store as well =)  In order to vote you will need “proof” that you donated through Lauren and Ken’s paypal account, which is really really easy to do!  I will post more about the contest once it gets closer....but just keep that in mind for all of you who many not yet have kiddos, or who live far away and would still like to participate in this fun fundraiser in some way!!

Please think about and consider helping out and having fun with this fundraiser!!!

Making a Change

Hello to all =)  If you are reading this then you are probably interested in having me take pictures, or at least looking at my pictures in some capacity....I have an update. I have thought long and hard about this for several weeks and finally today felt like I had a peace about my decision...so here it is...

I am no longer going to be taking family pictures. It's nothing really earth shattering or huge, but it was a big decision and step for me to make.  Ok, now, let me say this...I MAY occasionally still do family stuff for my close friends or actual family...since that IS how all this got started anyways, but in general, I will not be taking "new clients" for family portrait sessions.

The reason - I just felt like I needed to decide what I am really passionate about when it comes to photography. This isn't my real job, so I can definitely pick and choose what I want to do, and honestly, I am just not passionate about family pictures anymore.  There are other aspects of photography that I just absolutely LOVE and want to pursue further and get better at, and in order to do that, there has to be a sacrifice somewhere.  So for all my friends who are so wonderful about recommending me for photos, you can still proceed to do so, but just not for family sessions =)  I have TONS of talented photographer friends...so if you ever need someone, you can still feel free to ask me and I will see what I can do about hooking you up with someone to do family sessions!

Now, for anyone reading this who currently already HAS a family session scheduled with me, don't worry, I am not backing out on you =)  Starting in October I will not be taking any "new" clients.  For friends (and most of you will know who you are) for whom I usually do fall photos, I think we will still be able to work something out...because, afterall, it is Photos For my Friends photography =)  So, for anyone else, please do NOT take this personal!

Also, Anthony and I are not shooting weddings anymore either (unless it is for some of our close close friends for when they one day decide to take the plunge!) Most of you probably already know this, but just throwing it out for anyone else!  I am still doing engagement sessions, because I truly enjoy them, so should you hire a photographer that doesn't include an E-session, then I can help you out with those!

You will also notice that I basically NEVER update this blog(although I did change a few things, including music tonight!)...mostly due to a lack of time...perhaps once winter rolls around I can get around to it...but THIS is the only "website" that I have.  I get lots of messages from people asking where our website went, well, we got rid of it =) I have this blog, and facebook, and that is basically all I need at this time!

Ok, I think that's about it. Have a super blessed weekend everyone!!!

A few more projects...

I have been working on "odds and ends" projects the past few weeks...some are still yet to be completed, but here are a few pictures of the new additions and improvements!

This is now one wall of our entryway. I had been wanting to do SOMETHING there ever since we moved in, but it is an odd space because of door configurations and what not, so thanks to IKEA and some old frames I had not being used, I created this little space. The hooks are actually fairly low to the ground so it's perfect for the girls to hang up their coats or sweaters or eden's book bag when she comes home from school.  I use the canvas basket thing to hold keys, mail, flip flops, sunglasses, anything that clutters up my kitchen or entryway now gets thrown into those!  I am working on finding 2 pictures to fill the frames...

Notice a few new things??

I FINALLY found a dresser on craigslist for my other dining room wall and loved my luck in the situation that the dresser matches the style of my craiglist hutch...perfect! It, too, like the hutch was old dark wood....so a few sandings, priming, and paint jobs - good as new =)  **side note, it bugs me to no end that I didn't notice my lampshade was crooked until later looking at these pictures...oh well!

A closer look at the plaque hanging behind the dresser. I was thrilled that I found this, I had forgotten all about it and it basically works perfect in the space. It is from one of my favorite bible verses in Malachi.

I am working on a black and white photo frame wall!  The large white rectangular "thing" is actually a huge magnetic board and the basket hanging off it houses wonderful alphabet tiles that I turned into magnets so the girls can play with them. It, too, is at just their height.  I am still messing around with the frames and placement of them - which my husband just LOVES...he really appreciates it when I drill 20+ holes in one wall alone..hahah

Eventually this ultra cute fabric will become curtains for in my dining room windows. I have loved it since the day I saw it on Ikea's website...now I finally own it, I just need to sew them =)

Eden's room also got a magnetic board above her desk and we created the magnets together to hang on it.  The thing hanging on the left side is a really great bargain (also from Ikea) in which you can adjust the height of the hanging "strings" and then she can hang up her own pictures and artwork and it is very easy to change around!

So, those are about it for now.  I am pleased so far with how everything is coming together...slowly but surely, and one step at a time!

Books, Movies, Concerts and CD's

It is well known that I love to read, and I love music.  So I am going to try to connect the two here...we will see how it goes =) It makes sense in my head, but that doesn't always mean a whole lot!

So, you know when you read a book...and it is wonderful and amazing and keeps your attention and brings out all these emotions, AND - then you see the movie version of the book, and you hate it, and you are disappointed, and it kind of ruins the book just a little for you. That is kind of how I felt last night when I saw Ingrid Michaelson live in concert for the first (and probably last) time.  I have always really liked her music and her thoughtful and fun and quirky lyrics...and I still do, I am just not a big fan of HER, in person.  So for me, her CD will always be better than a concert (not that she didn't sound good live).  Mat Kearney on the other hand, is one of those rare exceptions of when the movie is just as good (if not BETTER) than the book - and it adds to it and makes you appreciate it even more and perhaps pick up things you may not have noticed...his live performances are amazing and so much fun and definitely something you should see at some point!!  So, in general, last night was wonderful - and we had a great time.  I just kind of wished that Mat would have played last so as not to have left with the disappointment of Ingrid's performance - well not so much her performance...just her.  Here are my only 3 pictures from the night....

what's a boy to do...

Every once in awhile I will come across a song that I just NEED to know what it is about, or why it was written...and Mat Kearney's "What's a Boy to Do" song is on my mind right now.   You know you go to those song meaning websites (ok- or if you a nerd like me, you do) and read what everyone else "thinks" it is about...and usually I am all for that, the song taking on a meaning of it's own for the individual listener...but this is one of those instances where I just really want to know what it is about and why he wrote it...I have my own theories, but, it would be nice to hear from Mat himself the WHY behind this wonderful song that leaves you reflecting - and then pressing the back button on your cd player or ipod to give it another listen =)  So...if anyone has the in with M.K, and happens to know the exact meaning for the song...pass along the info please!  Otherwise, enjoy listening to it for yourself courtesy of the wonderful music player from playlist.com.  I am not going to post the lyrics, only because I think if you just read the lyrics you wouldn't have much of a clue what is going on...it's almost like you need to hear him sing it; at least that is what I think!     4 days to concert...SO SUPER EXCITED!!!

Have a good weekend friends,

~holly~

Music Monday - Damien Rice

For anyone who actually listens to the music that plays at the bottom of my page, I changed my playlist the other day to include 3 of my favorite Damien Rice songs : Cannonball, The Blower's Daughter, and Volcano.  I heard The Blower's Daughter years and years ago...on a Dawson's Creek episode and loved it. I own the song and have it on a CD somewhere....but have no idea where that is  =(  This song is just hauntingly beautiful..."I can't take my eyes off of you...I can't take my mind off of you.."  The story behind this song is pretty interesting too...I can't remember where I read about it, but it would be too in depth for me to try to explain it here =)

At work, we have satellite radio stations, and I always listen to "The coffehouse" which has all these great acoustic versions of songs...and they play Damien Rice songs A LOT...so the other 2 songs I have featured are ones that I heard on that station and that definitely grew on me.  I am actually not a huge fan of the chorus in the song Cannonball...but i LOVE all the verses.  My favorite part is the line that says "There's still a little bit of your song in my ear, there's still a little bit of your words I long to hear..."  I can't say for sure why I like the Volcano song...there isn't a line or anything that jumps out to me, but I really think that the song just grew on me.

Anyways...i'll have these on here for awhile until I find other songs that I like even better =)  If you have artists or songs that you love, share them with me...I am ALWAYS on the lookout for new tunes to listen to =)

Blessings,
~holly~

In the end- LOVE WINS!!!

First, let me express my sincerest THANKS to everyone who took some time out of their day to check out the cards and cast a simple vote!!!

Next, I would like to THANK my best friend Lauren, from Knowing Norrah for surprising me and deciding to also donate funds to love146 and for all of her faithful blog readers who participated!!!

I would also like to THANK anyone who posted or shared links via blogs or facebook to help SPREAD THE WORD.  My hope in doing this "contest" was not just to be able to donate money to love146 - but to really spread the word of this organization, and even more importantly, the issue of human trafficking and childhood sex slavery....there are so many out there who are oblivious to this growing darkness, and I wanted to make as many aware as possible.  I hope that the efforts were successful and that others will also now choose to do something to make a difference in anyway they know how!  So THANK YOU for anyone who chose to SPREAD THE WORD this week...it certainly has meant a lot to me =)

I decided to do a PICTURE POST to announce the winners and totals and such...so thanks to my wonderful daughters who "suffered" through a short photo shoot to help me out with this!

I will OF COURSE will write everything out here too!

Our grand prize winner is Laurie Horanburg. She will be receiving a photo shoot for up to 2 people that she may use for herself or give to someone else!

Kristie Kachel will be able to choose a love146 t-shirt of her choice!!

Nick Garland will be receiving a $10.00 iTunes gift card!!
** I will be in direct contact with these winners at some point today! **

AS FOR THE FINALS NUMBERS...
We reached a total of 174 votes!!!  66 of them included a mention from the "Knowing Norrah" blog. So between our donation and Lauren and Ken's we will be giving the love146 organization a total of $120!!!  I pray that this would be multiplied and used in mighty mighty ways!!!!

The winning 'card' was.....

NUMBER SEVEN

card NUMBER THREE came in a very close second!!

I ended up voting for number 14, the ice cream card, solely based on the fact that that was my favorite picture that I took...it was a very hard decision for me...right away I also LOVED the way number 7 turned out...but in the end, I went with the ice cream card =)
The 'loser' cards were NUMBER 8 and NUMBER 13 =(  Each receiving ZERO votes..haha...OH WELL!
Again, Anthony and I are extremely grateful for everyone who took part in this first time crazy contest!  We hope to do more things like this in the future!  We encourage you to continue to remember the love146 organization...and the hundreds of thousands just like it that are working day and night to put an end to human trafficking and slavery all around the world!
In the end...LOVE is what will put an end to these horrible crimes...
Here's to hoping that in the end, LOVE is the WINNER =)
